Madonna, whore, Ophelia

2025

Madonna, Whore, Ophelia is a series that examines the tension between divine femininity and female vulnerability through three archetypal identities. Drawing from historical and cultural idols, my work aims to reflect how women are viewed as sacred, objectified, and tragic — often simultaneously, and rarely on their own terms.

Set within the confined space of a bathtub, each subject is photographed fully clothed and alone. The bathtub acts as both a site of cleansing and containment, becoming a symbolic space in which these identities can merge. Averted gazes suggest a vulnerable, inward focus while direct eye contact invites the viewer in.

Each figure decides whether the camera’s presence is meant to be incidental or acknowledged, but all three identities work in tandem to reflect how femininity can be performed, constructed, and weaponized.
