Drop Dead Gorgeous

2025

This series contains six images photographed in a way to mimic crime scene documentation. By incorporating the stark, clinical aesthetics of forensic photography, the goal of my work is to call attention to a cultural narrative that I see far too often.

In many courtrooms and news cycles, women who experience acts of violence are interrogated, not as victims, but as unreliable narrators of their own stories. Phrases like, “What was she wearing?” or “Why was she there?” become coded accusations, shifting responsibility away from the perpetrators and onto those who have been harmed — as if they must have given someone a reason to harm them. Through my work, I hope that it enables every viewer to ask themself, “What does it take for a woman’s suffering to be seen as real?”
